Slow motion video of the effects of recoil using a Blackpowder revolver
The effect of recoil on the arm and wrist of this shooter can be clearly seen even in this low resolution sequence. The amount of waving about and bending of the arm is very noticeable. In this sequence he is using a two-handed grip on the gun but if he had being shooting single-handed, things would have been even more unstable. However it is often not possible to have a free choice, due to the wording of competition rules. The total time taken for this sequence was just under half a second, see also the sequence as a series of still photographs.
