Lock of a Black Powder percussion pistol
Although this percussion lock is a reproduction item and not an antique it does show very clearly the mechanism of a pre-breech loading gun. Note the high polish and the use of "V" springs. It is about three inches in length. Black Powder guns are notable for having relatively simple parts and being easy to strip down into their components.
