The Annual Newsletter of Marple Rifle & Pistol Club

December 2009

From The Chair

I can’t believe another year has gone by and we are coming up to Christmas once again.  This year has been challenging as many of us have seen our lifestyle change with the economic downturn.  This has in its turn lead to a resolve to struggle though these challenging times to ensure that when the upturn comes we can, with a new government, have the feel good factor that we so desperately need.

The Club membership has increased and we have close to 200 members now.  That being said the organisational requirements mean more help is required for manning the Range and organising the social programmes.

We have had a number of competition winners  and they are all to be congratulated, for their skill and upholding the tradition of our Club.

Our social events have been very successful, with 50 members and guests enjoying both the hot pot supper - very tasty -  and the summer barbecue.  The highlight this year was the 50th anniversary summer event with fireworks from Roger and a quiz organised by Roger’s wife,  all events  well organised by Elizabeth and her helpers.

We continue to ensure our Club is maintained and improved with several projects in the pipeline including replacing the steel baffles behind the linotex.

Thanks to all the Range Officers and Committee - you know who you are -  once again excelling in the help you have given, but particular thanks to Gordon, Mike and Peter for your support.

Finally on a personal note,  thanks to each and every one of you for your support to ensure that our Club grows and we can maintain our sport.

Best wishes for a happy Christmas and New Year

John C Shonfeld

I.T. Matters

Would all members having access to email please let Michael Williams have their current email address so that they can be kept informed of important Club news? Rest assured that you will not be bombarded with spam as there are normally no more than three or four items per year.

Will anyone wishing to be included on the monthly email list of shooting-related news items also let Michael know?  If you are already on it there is no need to ask again, but do be warned that if you do not have broadband, many of the files are quite large.
